On December 14, board members of The H Foundation came to campus to present Leonidas C. Platanias, MD, PhD, the Jesse, Sara, Andrew, Abigail, Benjamin, and Elizabeth Lurie Professor of Oncology and director of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, with a check to support and accelerate basic cancer research at the Lurie Cancer Center.
Kathleen J. Green, PhD, was delighted to join Dr. Platanias in hosting Cortney Frahm, executive director of The H Foundation, John Rot, president of The H Foundation, and Dan Chopp vice president of The H Foundation as they presented the check representing proceeds from the foundation’s 2018 Goombay Bash. Read more about the 2018 Goombay Bash. Dr. Green is Joseph L. Mayberry Sr. Professor of Pathology and Toxicology, professor of Dermatology, and associate director for Basic Sciences Research at the Lurie Cancer Center. She also is a proud past recipient of H Foundation funds.
The H Foundation was established in 2001 by a few friends with a shared entrepreneurial spirit who decided they wanted to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Since its inception and with the participation of thousands of supporters, The H Foundation has raised more than $8.5 million to advance research at the Lurie Cancer Center. With H Foundation funding, the Lurie Cancer Center has, in turn, been able to leverage these generous philanthropic funds into more than $50 million in private and government grants for cancer research projects that bridge basic science and clinical care.
