Nathan Smith Davis Society Members Celebrated at Yearly Reception

On Saturday, April 27, members of the Nathan Smith Davis Society at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine—a group of over 2,000 medical alumni, faculty, friends, and staff members—braved April snow for a reception celebrating their commitment to the medical school.

Feinberg hosts the yearly Davis Society event at the Arts Club of Chicago to thank those who support Feinberg’s growth, excellence, and competitiveness through generous philanthropic gifts and volunteer service.

“As Davis Society members, you are an essential part of our community,” Alan Krensky, MD, executive for Development at Northwestern Medicine and vice dean for Development and Alumni Relations at Feinberg, said to the crowd. “Together, we’ve achieved great things. Through your philanthropy and volunteerism, you’ve helped us mentor students, establish scholarships, endow professorships, fund breakthrough research, and so much more.”

Dr. Krensky shared that Feinberg has recently surpassed its $2 billion goal for We Will. The Campaign for Northwestern Medicine and that scientists have started to move into the new Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center.

“None of this would have been possible without your support, and together there is so much more we can accomplish,” Dr. Krensky added. “From all of us at the medical school, thank you for your generosity.”

In fact, in fiscal year 2018, Davis Society members supported hundreds of priorities across the medical school, including research and medical education initiatives, scholarships, fellowships, professorships, and more. Volunteers, recognized through the Service Society, participated in Alumni Physicians of Feinberg, served on boards for the Medical Alumni Association and Physical Therapy Alumni Association, and donated their time as medical school class representatives and Admissions Committee faculty interviewers.

Members of the Feinberg Student Senate also attended the event on April 27 to share their experiences as medical students, and to express their gratitude for support received from Davis Society Members.

“I’m here because I have a lot of pride for Northwestern—I love the school, I love what it’s given to me, and I want to give back to it,” said Sridhar Durbhakula, ’97 MD, a Davis Society member and Medical Alumni Association National Board member.

“All of us here today want to be involved in Northwestern’s evolution. It’s great to get together at events like this and realize we have a common goal,” he added. “Northwestern is already a leader, but together we can make it even greater.”
