Student Research Leadership

Director's Message

I am excited to serve as Director of Student Research at NUSFM. By background, I am a cardiologist and clinical/translational researcher focused on the role of infection, immune response, and inflammation in cardiovascular disease pathogenesis . I came to Northwestern to start medical school in 2007 and, with the help of a wonderful mentor, found that clinical and translational research provided me with a great deal of fulfillment and the perfect balance to make me (I think) a better clinician. I stayed on for Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship, and started on Faculty here in 2017. I have a broad viewpoint of what research is – ranging from basic experimental models to community-based participatory research to advocacy and implementation research – and am committed to supporting you in finding research that excites you and doing all I can to help you excel at it.

Sincerely,
Matt Feinstein MD MSc
