Our History

The Augusta Webster, MD, Office of Medical Education resides in the historic Montgomery Ward Memorial Building, opened in 1926 as the world's first "skyscraper" medical center and Northwestern's inaugural medical school building. Funded by Mrs. A. Montgomery Ward's $8 million gift, the building's establishment marked a pivotal moment for the school, enabling it to become co-educational and admit its first female students in 1926.
