Clinical Medicine
At Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, clinical medicine training begins on the first day of medical school. Our curriculum provides consistent, authentic exposure to patients at every stage of the MD program. This includes honing essential skills such as communication, medical interviewing, physical examination, written and verbal presentations, clinical reasoning and advanced clinical techniques.
Throughout their medical education, students learn these clinical skills in several settings:
- Small-group instruction led by an expert faculty member.
- Standardized patient interactions, focusing on illness relevant to their current studies.
- Education-Centered Medical Home: Active patient-care settings providing real-world opportunities to apply knowledge.
- Community Health Advocacy Initiative (CHAI): a longitudinal, experiential curriculum providing students with hands-on learning and mentorship in community engagement and advocacy to improve patient health
Our curriculum emphasizes evidence-based medicine, equipping students with the skills necessary to practice effectively. By the end of their MD career, students will be well-prepared to apply and further refine their clinical skills during their clinical rotations.
