About SF Match - Ophthalmology (Medical School Portal)

Through the SF Match Medical School Portal system, medical schools are able to upload documents as soon as the applicant registers for the match and completes the first step of the application process by submitting his/her online Central Application Service (CAS) application form. Medical schools will be able to upload the following documents in .pdf format:

  1. Medical school transcripts (plain text/black-and-white versions or scanned versions of transcripts on official paper)
  2. Letters of references (from three letter writers, as indicated by applicant on CAS form)
  3. Updated versions of medical school transcripts (optional, maximum of three updates)
  4. MSPE letters (please note that as to comply with the AAMC, MSPE letters for senior applicants will not be released to programs until Oct. 1)

Applicants will be able to upload the remainder of these support documents to complete their application for review:

  1. College transcripts
  2. USMLE/COMLEX/MCCQE transcripts
  3. Any additional document(s) deemed acceptable by CAS, such as AOA letter, Sigma Sigma Phi, post graduate transcripts or a medical license

Required Documents for PGY-2 Ophthalmology Residency

The following documents are required in order for a PGY-2 Ophthalmology Residency application to be considered complete:

  1. CAS application form (to be completed and submitted online by applicant; see the CAS Applicant User Guide)
  2. College transcript (s) (upload by applicant)
  3. Medical school transcript(s) (upload by medical school )
  4. USMLE Step 1/COMLEX 1 (upload by medical school)
  5. Letter of reference 1 (upload by medical school)
  6. Letter of reference 2 (upload by medical school)
  7. Letter of reference 3 (upload by medical school)

It is important to note that SF Match’s CAS will continue to accept hard copies in the event that digital copies are not available.

The document upload function is only available for the PGY-2 Ophthalmology Residency. Applicants applying to other SF Match specialties that use CAS must mail hard copies to our office.
