Division of Gynecologic Oncology

The Division of Gynecologic Oncology includes physicians, nurses, scientists and nurse practitioners working together in a multidisciplinary setting to provide excellence in cancer research and care. Together with our clinical partners at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, we are able to offer a number of clinical services for the evaluation and treatment of premalignant and invasive cancer of the ovary, cervix, endometrium and vulva.

Research in the clinical and molecular aspects of gynecologic cancer are pivotal to our mission. The Brewer Trophoblastic Disease Center has supported research and care for individuals with gestational trophoblastic disease for over 50 years. The Northwestern Ovarian Cancer Early Detection & Prevention Program has been established for patients and relatives with a family history of ovarian cancer.

About Our Work

Education

A variety of interdisciplinary educational opportunities exist at all levels within the division, affording scholars the opportunity to learn about various issues surrounding research and clinical treatment of conditions related to prenatal and cancer genetics. Six- to eight-week rotations are offered to medical students, and a three-year fellowship is also offered. Residents and fellows attend weekly conferences and monthly Journal Clubs to complete their didactic experiences. In addition to the clinical and research activities, fellows also enrolled in coursework to gain additional knowledge to successfully design and conduct research studies.

Research

The Division of Gynecologic Oncology is involved in a number of institutional research studies and sponsored clinical trials through the Gynecologic Oncology Group Eastern Oncology Cooperative Group. For more information on our research, please visit the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.

Patient Care

To provide the best possible care to oncology patients, their families and caregivers, the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, along with the sections of Hematology/Oncology, Surgical Oncology, and the National Ovarian Cancer Early Detection Program, have joined with the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. The Cancer Center provides a full range of oncology services and access to specialized research, clinical trials and diagnostic services. It is the only Comprehensive Cancer Center in Illinois, as designated by the National Cancer Institute.
