Christopher M. Gonzalez, MD, MBA

Associate Professor


Dr. Gonzalez obtained his medical degree from the University of Iowa prior to completing his general surgery and urologic residency training with Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.  He currently is an associate professor with the Northwestern University Department of Urology, and obtained his MBA degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management.  He is the clinical practice director for the department, and was the Chief of Urology for the Veteran’s Administration hospital, Lakeside division until its closure in 2006.  He currently serves as the chairman for the AUA North Central Section’s Young Urologist’s Committee, and was selected as a member of the AUA Leadership program in 2006. He is a member of the AUA Young Urologists Committee and serves on the Board of Directors for the Society of Genitourinary Reconstruction.  In the area of health policy Dr. Gonzalez currently works on the AUA Practice Management benchmarking Committee.

Dr. Gonzalez' clinical interests include male urethral reconstructive surgery and health policy.  He has published over 40 peer review manuscripts, and was awarded an NIH SPORE project pilot grant to study prostate cancer screening amongst Hispanic men. He has received funding from the Grant Healthcare Foundation for the development of electronic pre-visit software in order to improve the quality of patient care, reduce errors, control costs, and facilitate patient flow.

Dr. Gonzalez has additional interest in international medicine and coordinates a yearly surgical relief mission comprised of Northwestern University urologists.  Teams have been assembled to complete various specialty cases in such locations as Honduras, China, Morocco, and Ecuador over the past seven years.
