Bharat B. Mittal, MD 

Dr. Mittal is professor of radiation oncology and chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology and an attending physician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Meerut University in India and received his MBBS (equivalent to U. S. MD) from Christian Medical College in Ludhiana, India in 1973. A flexible internship and residency in internal medicine were served at the Christian Medical College and Hospital. Afterward, he completed an additional residency in radiation oncology at Northwestern and a fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Mittal has previously been a faculty member at Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Pittsburgh.

William Small Jr,, MD

Dr. Small is professor of radiation oncology, vice chair, Department of Radiation Oncology, and associate medical director of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern Universiity. He is an attending physician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in honors biology, magna cum laude from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. He received his MD from the Feinberg School with distinction in 1990. He served an internship in internal medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and a residency in radiation oncology there as well.

John A. Kalapurakal, MD

Dr. Kalapurakal is associate professor, radiation oncology and neurosurgery. He received his MBBS (equivalent to U.S. MD) from the Medical College Kottayam in Kerala, India in 1988. He served a residency in radiation oncology at the Regional Cancer Center in Kerala, India and received his MD in 1991. Next, he served an internal medicine residency at Erlanger Medical Center, University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, and then a radiation oncology residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. He also holds appointments at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Children’s Memorial Hospital.

Alan G. Kepka, PhD

Dr. Kepka is assistant professor, radiation oncology and chief of clinical physics at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He recieved his bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees in physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He worked at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center and the Illinois Institute of Technology before joining Northwestern.

John P. Hayes, MD

Dr. Hayes is an instructor in radiation oncology. He received his undergraduate degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 1983 and his MD degree from West Virginia University in 1987. After an internship in general surgery at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD, he completed his residency in radiation oncology at FSM in 1991. Dr. Hayes joined the medical staff in September 2008.

Cathy Yang Cai, PhD

Dr. Cai is assistant professor of radiation oncology and a clinical radiation physicist at NMH. She received her bachelor's degree in radio physics and her master's degree in astrophysics from Nanjing University in Nanjing, China. Following that she achieved her PhD in solid state physics from the University of Ottowa, in Ottowa, Canada. A post-doctoral fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago came afterward. She joined the faculty in 2006.

Yunkai Zhang, PhD

Dr. Zhang is assistant professor of radiation oncology and a radiation physicist at NMH. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in physics from Tsinghua university in Beijing, China. He achieved his PhD in physics from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN in 2003. Before joining the Feinberg School, he completed a postdoctoral fellowhip at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

MaryAnne Hoffman Marymont, MD

Dr. Marymont is assistant professor of radiation oncology and assistant professor of neurosurgery. In addition, she holds several other appointments at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Children’s Memorial Hospital. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology with distinction from Northwestern and received her MD degree cum laude from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1983. Dr. Marymont served an internship in internal medicine at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago and her residency in Northwestern’s Department of Radiology, Division of Radiation Oncology (now designated as this separate department).

Tatjana Paunesku, PhD

Dr. Paunesku is research associate professor in the departments of Radiology and Radiation Oncology at the Feinberg School. She also is an adjunct professor at the Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center of Northwestern University. She received her bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and her master’s degree in molecular biology and physiology from Belgrade University in Yugoslavia. In 1997, she received her PhD in biology from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Before joining Northwestern, she worked at Argonne National Laboratory in the biosciences division.

Vythialingam Sathiaseelan, PhD

Dr. Sathiaseelan is associate professor, radiation oncology and chief physicist, Radiation Oncology Center, Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He also is a consultant medical staff at Children's Memorial Hospital for the photon radiosurgery project. In July 1982, he received his PhD in microwave engineering from the University of Bradford, Bradford, England. Before joining Northwestern, he was on the faculty at Washington University.

Gayle E. Woloschak, PhD

Dr. Woloschak is professor of radiation oncology at the Feinberg School. She received her bachelor’s degree in biological sciences summa cum laude from Youngstown State University in Ohio and her PhD in microbiology from the Medical College of Ohio in 1980. Afterward, she served as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Immunology and Department of Cell Biology. In previous scientific positions she has worked at the Mayo Clinic and Argonne National Laboratory.
