Primarily, radiation oncology clinical services are provided by Feinberg School of Medicine faculty members to patients at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH). Children are referred for treatment there from Children's Memorial Hospital (CMH) as well. The quality of our clinical care is high and our entire team focuses on patient care and satisfaction. Types of treatment include radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, Gamma Knife surgery, total nodal irradiation (TNI) in bone marrow transplantation, brachytherapy, three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy, intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT). With the opening of the new Prentice Women's Hospital and the purchase of a new, highly advanced linear accelerator, stereotactic body radiation therapy will be performed as well. Clinical faculty are performing research through National Institutes of Health (NIH) and drug company-sponsored trials. In addition, they are active in research in National Cooperative Clinical Trial Groups, such as the radiation therapy oncology group, intramural protocols and data analysis at NMH and CMH. Examples of intramural studies include: The use of IMRT in oropharyngeal dysfunction in head and neck cancer, which is funded by NIH, the use of the photon radiosurgery system for pediatric brain tumors, funded by the Medical Research Institute Council, and use of TNI in Hodgkin's disease for bone marrow transplantion patients.
