Feinberg Receives Top CME Accreditation

Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine has received the highest rating possible from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).

It’s the first time the medical school has received Accreditation with Commendation, joining the top 26 percent of accredited institutions in the country. Until October, the University of Chicago was the only academic institution in the city to maintain the ACCME’s top endorsement.

The recognition means Feinberg’s Office of Continuing Medical Education (OCME) will be accredited through March 31, 2017.

“Accreditation with Commendation is achieved by demonstrating compliance with all 22 criteria,” said Raymond Curry, MD, vice dean of education. “It conveys a six-year term of accreditation, longer than the usual maximum, and is also indicative to the CME community of overall excellence.”

The Feinberg OCME has maintained a progressive approach that now includes maintenance of certification in Anesthesiology, a joint project of the OCME and the Center for Education in Medicine. The last time the medical school received a six-year term of accreditation was in 1986, under different accreditation standards.
