Collaboration with Student Groups

Feinberg has many student groups with interests as diverse as our student body. Latino Medical Student Association, Student National Medical Association, Queers & Allies, Jewish Medical Student Organization, Muslim Student Association, Asian Pacific American Student Association, and South Asian Medical Student Association are just a few. Where possible, the Office of Diversity supports meeting/conference attendance and student initiatives (such as lunchtime seminars or lectures) that focus on and raise awareness about diversity, social justice, underserved communities, and health disparities. Students can apply for funds on a bi-yearly basis and are expected to contribute to diversity at Feinberg in return.

Featured Student Groups

Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA)

LMSA members work closely with the Office of Diversity and other student organizations to accomplish their goals. LMSA assists with programming and mentoring for high school students as well as participates in national and regional meetings. Members of LMSA assist with recruitment efforts and partner with the SNMA for the Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP).

Student National Medical Association (SNMA)

The Office of Diversity works closely with SNMA to support their programming and initiatives. Last year, student leaders worked with to help organize a campus visit for premedical students in conjunction with the SNMA Annual Medical Education Conference. Each year the SNMA runs a Health Professions Recruitment & Exposure Program for high school and college students in the Chicago area. The Office of Diversity partners with SNMA to support HPREP, which begins in January and runs for six weeks.

Queers & Allies (Q&A)

The NUFSOM Queers & Allies (Q&A) group promotes the acceptance of LGBT students, faculty, and staff through education and discussion of LGBT issues and rights. In addition to being an educational and social resource, Q&A helps to coordinate the Safe Space Program for the Feinberg community as an alliance of LGBT-friendly students, faculty, and staff.

Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association

(APAMSA) strives to serve the student body in four different capacities: cultural, social, educational, and philanthropy. The services are especially focused for Asian American medical students, providing an avenue where Asian American issues and concerns may be addressed. APAMSA has worked with the Office of Diversity to support Hepatitis B screening and the Chinatown Clinic.
