For Affiliated Hospitals

Feinberg’s affiliated hospitals can collaborate with the academic departments of Feinberg to recruit and appoint faculty based at the affiliated sites:

  • Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago
  • Shirley Ryan AbilityLab
  • John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County
  • Jesse Brown VA Medical Center

Such faculty recruitment and appointment is subject to the processes and policies established by Northwestern University and the Feinberg School of Medicine and requires approval of the Feinberg department chair, dean and University provost.

Faculty Recruitment

Leaders at affiliated hospitals who identify a faculty vacancy should first contact the department chair and administrator of the Feinberg department to which a new faculty member would be appointed and discuss the position. Approval from the provost is required before launching a full-time faculty search, which must be national in scope and implement proactive strategies to reach a diverse applicant pool. The Feinberg department administrator will advise you on process, instruct you as to what documentation to complete, and enter your request in University systems for approval.

Northwestern now requires that applicants to full-time faculty positions complete an online job application to be considered for faculty appointment. Affiliated hospitals are expected to advertise their faculty vacancies through Northwestern’s careers site and collect applications through the University’s Faculty Recruiting System. Administrators at affiliated sites should work with the Feinberg department administrator to develop a plan for monitoring receipt of applications through this system.  (Access to the system requires a University netID and password.)

When a finalist is identified, an offer letter for faculty appointment must be reviewed and approved by the department chair, dean, and (if needed) provost before being provided to the candidate.  Collaborate with the Feinberg department chair’s office to prepare the documentation needed to obtain this approval.
