Budget Overview

Budget Overview is a feature in NUFinancials that allows you to get real-time information about a chart string. A Cognos GL005 is also useful but both have advantages and disadvantages. Instructions on using Budget Overview can be found in myHR Learn.

Budget Overview

Pros

  • Real-time data
  • Drill down into budget, actual and encumbrance transactions without running another report
  • Not a report, runs instantly
  • Can customize what you see and how it appears
  • Can run for control balance
  • Can use for sponsored projects

Cons

  • Not as visually appealing as the GL005
  • Cannot be configured to be emailed to someone else

GL005

Pros

  • Better organized and easier to read
  • Can be structured to run at any interval and emailed to user or anyone else

Cons

  • Data is always a day old
  • Can only drill into HTML version, then it runs an entire GL008

When viewing Budget Overview in NUFinancials, to get revenue and expense on the same budget overview search use:

  • Ledger Group/set – Ledger Inquiry Set
  • Ledger Inquiry Set – Test 1
  • Type of Calendar – Detail budget period

At this point, you may want to use the Personalize option to order/delete columns and sort by accounts.
