M4 Teaching Selective

Provide Feedback in the M4 Teaching Selective
  • Provide written feedback to the M4 students on written peer assessment feedback completed by the M4 students for M2 mentees
  • October to April. Feedback will be completed remotely. Number of students you will review will be forthcoming.

Anatomy Lab Sessions

Small Group Leader
  • Lead groups of M1 and M2 students in the Anatomy Lab
  • Varies, usually 2-3 hours several times throughout the year
  • Can commit to one or more sessions, depending on your availability

M1 Clinical Medicine (CM)

M1 Clinical Skills Small Group Preceptor
  • Opportunity to teach clinical skills such as communication skills, history-taking and physical exams. Small groups typically consist of 4-8 students. Students practice with standardized patients in the Outpatient Simulation Center.
  • One, two-hour session every week (or every other week)
  • M1 Clinical Skills small groups: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays; 1:00-3:00 p.m. from August 2023 to May 2024

Health & Society (HS)

Small Group Leader
  • Topics: Social, environmental, behavioral determinants of health and disease; healthcare delivery; health promotion/disease prevention; individual, community, public and global health.
  • Opportunity to teach throughout the curriculum in one-hour time blocks
  • Small group discussion guides will be provided, so no content expertise required

Health Equity & Advocacy (HEA)

Small Group Leader
  • Facilitate small group discussions about health care disparities, social determinants of health and health advocacy. Small group discussion guides will be provided for each session, so no content expertise required.
  • M1: One, one-hour session in January (Cardiovascular-Blood Module); 9:00 -10:00 am

M2 Clinical Skills (CM)

M2 Clinical Skills Small Group Preceptor
  • Opportunity to teach clinical skills such as communication skills, history-taking and physical exams. Small groups typically consist of 4-8 students. Students practice with standardized patients in the Outpatient Simulation Center.

  • M2 Clinical Skills small groups: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays; 3:15-5:15 p.m. from July 2023 to March 2024

Medical Decision-Making (MDM)

Small Group Leader
  • M1: There are 14 one-hour sessions spread over 10 months. Sessions are broken into two blocks, starting in August and January. You can sign up to be a sub, do a full block or both blocks. The small group sessions are from 3:00 - 4:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, approximately every other week.
  • M2: Largely student-led sessions that focus on critical appraisal of the literature.
  • M1: There are 16 one-hour sessions spread over 10 months. You can do blocks of as few as five to seven sessions or all sessions. The small group sessions are from 3:00 - 4:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, approximately every other week.
  • M2: Seven, 90-minute student led sessions. Small group sessions occur on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, from 1:00 - 2:30 pm, once a month.

Problem Based Learning (PBL)

Small Group Leader
  • Cases focus on applying foundational sciences to clinical problems and integrating ethics/public health issues.
  • Two, two-hour sessions per week for two to six weeks
  • M1: Monday/ Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. or Tuesday/ Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.
  • M2: Monday/ Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. or Tuesday/ Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m.

Professional Development (PD)

Small Group Leader
  • Ethics-based discussions (Ethics in Action)
  • Personal Awareness and Self-Care discussions (Personal Transition to the Profession)
  • (EIA) M1: One-hour session per month (M, T, W or Th), from 3:00 - 4:00 pm, March through May.
  • (EIA) M2: One-hour session per month (M, T, W or Th), from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, September through December.
  • Humanities Seminars M1: Each seminar meets for 10 hours, in 5 weekly 2-hour sessions, 3:00-5:00pm, January through March.
  • Humanities Seminars M2: Each seminar meets for 10 hours, in 5 weekly 2-hour sessions, 1:00-3:00pm, October through December.

Synthesis and Application Modules (SAM)

Small Group Leader (Simulation, CM, Ethics, H&S)
  • Facilitate a small group discussion (Ethics, H&S, CM) or a simulation session designed to integrate physiology, pharmacology, and clinical medicine. Prior experience teaching in the simulation lab is beneficial.
  • Phase 1a SAM I (mid November)

Student Research Mentor
  • Longitudinal commitment to mentor a student's scholarly project.
  • Projects are conducted over four years, though most work is completed during the first two years.

  • Provide feedback and guidance to students in an education-based project.

  • • Faculty with content expertise will prepare an active learning session to engage students and direct their learning.
