Q&A with Yikuan Li

What projects are you currently working or interested?
I dedicate myself to the research of applying deep learning, natural language processing, and reinforcement learning to heterogeneous real-world data to contribute to healthcare. My thesis project will be using multimodal, multinational, and multisite data to advance the prognostic prediction of heart failure.
 
What publication are you are most proud to be associated with?
Please check out our latest publication on algorithmic bias of machine learning models in the prediction of heart failure outcomes. The paper was published in Circulation: Heart Failure and featured by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)
 
What is your plan for after graduation?
I have an ambitious career goal of becoming a researcher in biomedical informatics. I will seek postdoctoral training opportunities after graduation.
 
Who inspires you?
My parents inspired me to pursue an academic career. My advisor, Dr. Yuan Luo, inspired me to enter the research field I am working on.
 
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I was a student-athlete (soccer) back in college.
