These online faculty development learning modules were developed by FAME education experts to provide convenient educational offerings for busy clinical educators. Each module targets a specific educational need. CME credit is available for each individual course. Please see the individual course descriptions for more information.

 Direct Observation in the Clinical Setting

Completion time: 20 minutes

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. List the benefits of direct observation as an assessment strategy
  2. Compare different strategies to improve assessment feasibility in an office ambulatory setting
  3. Identify at least two best practices for providing feedback after a direct observation assessment

  1. Create a toolkit to take notes in the moment during small-group sessions
  2. Provide effective real-time and written feedback
  3. Provide students with specific and concrete feedback about their performance in small-group settings
  4. Understand how this feedback is used to track students' progress and growth
