Hi my name is Shivani Kumaresan, and I'm a current M1 at Feinberg School of Medicine! I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore for undergrad. I chose Feinberg because this school is truly so holistic in their approach to teaching medicine–I came in with a public health background and really wanted to find a medical school that incorporated public health and the importance of the structural determinants of health on health outcomes–and within the first few weeks Feinberg has already made that emphasis clear. I also was super excited about the opportunities to volunteer and develop longitudinal relationships over the entire four years with patients through the ECMH program, as community service played a large role in my education during undergrad. So far, I've met amazing, kind people and feel like part of a truly collaborative community of students supporting one another in all endeavors.
