Leadership Message
Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine Executive Committee on Admissions
Welcome to Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Our Admissions website is a resource with all the information you need to apply to the MD program at Feinberg. Just as importantly, it’s where you can learn about what it means to be a student at Feinberg. We welcome you to read about our curriculum, the clinical experience, research opportunities and life in Chicago.
Our location gives students access to our top-rated clinical affiliates — including Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab — as well as to the city of Chicago’s vibrant cultural landscape. Here you’ll have meaningful experiences that will help you grow both professionally and personally.
At Feinberg, our ultimate goal is educating future leaders in medicine. To accomplish this, we value excellence in all arenas, from clinical care to research. Our students not only receive hands-on clinical experience from day one, but they also use state-of-the-art facilities like our simulation center, volunteer in community clinics and pursue global health opportunities. Actively involved in research during all four years of medical school through a component of our curriculum called the Area of Scholarly Concentration, each Feinberg student works with a faculty mentor to develop a research project on a topic they feel passionate about.
In everything we do, we prioritize diversity at Feinberg. This means exposing our students to diverse patient populations and striving to build a medical school class that represents the patients we serve in the diverse city of Chicago. We also know that diversity of thought and background are highly correlated with excellence in many domains, including patient care, research, teamwork and communication. The medical profession is also facing a physician workforce that is not representative of the U.S. population, and this limits our ability to reduce health disparities. As we seek to identify and eliminate systemic racism and bias, we commit to diversity in our student body as a core mission and goal.
What else are we looking for as we build our student body? We seek people who are active learners — who will ask questions not only about patients, science and health policy, but also about themselves. Our students are leaders, but they also understand how important it is to be a team player and to develop relationships with others. You can’t do anything alone in the field of medicine. You can’t prepare for a career in the field of medicine alone either: Feinberg students work with our renowned faculty — physicians and scientists who are experts and innovators in their fields — every step of the way.
We encourage you to explore everything Feinberg has to offer and thank you for your interest.
