What was the biggest challenge you faced when starting medical school?

The biggest challenge I faced was moving so far away from home and leaving behind my family, friends, and partner. I am originally from New Hampshire and went to undergrad in Boston, so I have never traveled very far from my roots. It was both scary and exciting to make such a big change, but ultimately it has been such an incredible experience. It was difficult to leave my support system behind to start such an important chapter in my life, but the people I've met at Feinberg have been so supportive! I'm so thankful for this opportunity get outside of my comfort zone and explore a new place and new people.

What do you enjoy most about living in Chicago?

I live in Streeterville right next to campus, so I feel right in the middle of everything! I have a 2 min walk to classes, a park with a running track right outside my door, and the lake a block away. I love running and roller-skating, so the lakeside trail has been one of my favorite things about Chicago. I also love how there are always so many things to do for any interest and each of the neighborhoods has its own unique characteristics with so much diversity! And of course, the food here is amazing (Chicago is ranked #3 in the country for best food!).

Tell us a bit about your interests and hobbies outside the classroom:

Outside of class one of my favorite activities is running. I love to go on a sunrise jog on the lakeside trail, and on a hot day you can even jump in the water for a swim after! I also enjoy roller-skating, hiking, reading, and exploring coffee shops around the city. I minored in Spanish, so I also like to find opportunities to practice my Spanish with friends or through volunteer opportunities. Recently I have been getting into climbing, which is a really popular activity with Feinberg students. There is a student org or group chat dedicated to basically any interest you may have and it's a great way to meet new people!
