What was the biggest challenge you faced when starting medical school?

Starting medical school in the middle of the pandemic was certainly a challenge, but I felt a tremendous amount of support from AWOME, upperclassmen and members of my own class. The curriculum leaders at Feinberg did an excellent job adapting some classes to a virtual format, and are extremely receptive to student feedback on how to better these experiences and student experiences in general. I also appreciate the way my own class has banded together during this time. It has been a wonderful, supportive and collaborative community.

Why did you choose Feinberg?

I chose Feinberg because of the wonderful community. I had worked with Feinberg medical students in research projects during college, and learned how kind, friendly and happy everyone was. I know now that this definitely translates to a wonderful, collaborative community. I also chose Feinberg because I knew I wanted to be at a medical school that prioritized research opportunities. Feinberg's AOSC program guides you through finding a mentor and a project you are excited about, and really walks you through taking ownership of the project. I also loved the opportunities for early clinical exposure through the Education Centered Medical Home (ECMH). Working with patients from early in my medical education has helped me develop my clinical skills from a very early stage.

Tell us a bit about your interests and hobbies outside the classroom.

Feinberg definitely offers a lot of flexibility with your days. I love exploring Chicago and appreciating the amazing food here! I also love cooking and baking for my friends, and drawing and painting. I was able to take a class in Graphic Medicine this winter and loved learning about the intersection of graphic art and medicine. We're also lucky to be right next to the lake - running along the lake path is one of my favorite ways to get out and appreciate the city. The views are amazing!
