Why did you choose Feinberg?

Choosing Feinberg was ultimately a simple decision as students, ambassadors and faculty welcomed me (embracing my diversity) since interview day. FSM highlighted its commitment to making the student feel part of a supportive community and this was proven early on as ambassadors held diversity sessions to introduce interviewees to organizations (both academic and non-academic) that would support us through medical school. They talked about shared academic resources, counseling, and extracurricular sessions that demonstrated that FSM was truly invested in developing a curriculum that challenged us, while also providing the resources to thrive and enjoy this demanding academic journey. When I chose FSM, I was confident I would obtain the best medical education that reflected the needs of our time, while also being part of an institution that would prioritize my well-being. Overall, FSM felt like the place to safely learn, make mistakes, and ask questions to become the best physician-scientist I can be.

How would you describe the curriculum at Feinberg?

The curriculum at FSM is truly distinct from other medical schools as it equally prioritizes science in medicine alongside the important discussions of social determinants of health. The thread-like curriculum ensures that medical students understand, on a topic by topic or organ-based system, how science is closely intertwined with society to comprehend how illnesses are perceived and managed. The early exposure to patient-centered care as soon as week one of medical school demonstrates FSM's commitment to training future physicians that master patient-centered care, bridging the gap between vulnerable communities and healthcare. Our school focuses on academic success while reiterating the imminent need to train compassionate physicians that are centered on the core values of empathy, and tolerance.
