Why did you choose Feinberg?

Being from Indianapolis, IN, Feinberg was always on my radar due to the school's proximity to the rest of my family. When I took the time to do more research about the school and its curriculum and programs, what stood out the most was the emphasis on mentorship. During my time as an undergraduate, I had multiple excellent mentors that greatly contributed to my growth as a person. The presence of mentorship in a variety of settings at Feinberg (including ECMH, AOSC, college mentors, and M2/M1 mentorship) made me confident that I would receive the necessary mentored support to grow into an excellent physician. In addition to mentorship, Feinberg's early clinical experience through ECMH was something unique that I did not find at other medical schools. Since beginning here, ECMH has quickly become my favorite part of the Feinberg curriculum!

What do you enjoy most about living in Chicago?

The best part of living in Chicago is that no matter what your interests or hobbies are, you will never be bored! Every single week, there is something new and exciting to do in the city. If you're a fan of museums, Chicago has the world-renowned Museum of Science and Industry, Field Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago. If you love trying new types of food, Chicago has every cuisine imaginable, often located in one of the city's diverse ethnic neighborhoods. Personally, I am a huge fan of going to music concerts. Chicago has numerous concert venues ranging from tiny to large, and there is always fun and exciting artists/bands playing somewhere in the city.

Describe your path to Feinberg.

My initial interest in medicine was sparked by seeing a family member undergo a newly approved chemotherapeutic treatment that ultimately resulted in her cancer going into remission. I was captivated by how new medical treatments can make a rapid impact on patient populations. During my time as an undergraduate student, I joined a bladder cancer research lab which further bolstered my desire to attend medical school. Soon after beginning my research, I became a medical scribe in the emergency department. Spending countless hours observing clinical decision making by emergency room physicians cemented the fact that medicine was the right career path for me. Every day as a scribe, I wanted to have the vast understanding of disease processes, treatments, and clinical decision making that these physicians had and I knew that medical school was the best path for attaining this.
