Hi! My name is Briana Williams and I am an M1 at Feinberg. I am from Miami, Florida, and graduated from the University of Florida in 2021. Moving to Chicago has been a big change for me, but the students and faculty at Feinberg have really made it feel like home. I love the community here at Feinberg, and Chicago itself has so much to offer! Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have about FSM, medical school, or just to chat!

What do you enjoy most about living in Chicago?

Outside of the classroom, I am a big foodie! Since I am from Florida, I use most of my free time to explore different parts of Chicago and try new foods! Chicago is definitely one of the best cities for food and there are endless places to explore in each of the neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has so much to offer in terms of culture and diversity. There are also so many parks and green spaces throughout the city and along the river and lake which is perfect for my mini Goldendoodle. I love taking him to dog parks around the city or on walks down the lakefront trail. Spending time outdoors is essential to me and Chicago's lively, vibrant atmosphere is the perfect place for that!

How would you describe the curriculum at Feinberg? What do you find unique or innovative?

I would describe the curriculum at Feinberg as engaging and synergistic. It is engaging in the sense that it provides ample opportunity to learn medicine outside of the classroom. For instance, developing clinical skills and patient interactions are implemented from day one and then early on within Education-Centered Medical Home (ECMH). The curriculum also incorporates fundamental threads of health equity, ethics, and medical decision-making. These threads are further expanded on within small-group settings which allow for a more dynamic learning experience. I believe the most unique feature of the curriculum is the teamwork and collaboration it empowers. Events within the curriculum provide many opportunities to build close relationships with classmates and faculty. The faculty at Feinberg is very supportive and determined to help us succeed. From early within the curriculum, there is a strong sense of community and support between classmates, including those from other years. We share notes, study resources, and any tips that work toward our collective success.

Topics I can discuss with Feinberg students:

  • Campus Life
  • Student Wellness
  • Academic Support (studying, learning)
