Hello prospective students! My name is Alyssa Miller and I am a second year medical student at Feinberg. I am originally from Carmel, Indiana and went to undergraduate at Miami University in Ohio. I absolutely love Feinberg and in my few months here have been so impressed by the empowering culture from the student body and the administration as well as the genuine desire for learning medicine in the most well rounded way. From day one we have had exposure to patient care and have been taught how to be the most effective and passionate physicians possible. I am so grateful for this school and hope you love it as much as I do!

Describe your path to Feinberg

My interests during undergraduate prior to enrolling were a mixture of a love for working with people and a love of understanding the biological mechanisms that lead to sickness and health. These interests led me to four years of developmental biology research where I studied regenerative mechanisms. I also had a significant interest in the social determinants of health and as a result was able to volunteer in low-income areas both abroad and locally. Finally, leadership has always been one of my core values and I was able to spearhead several projects (both in research and in my campus life/volunteering) that contributed to overall health.

How would you describe the curriculum at Feinberg? What do you find unique or innovative?

Overall the best word to describe the curriculum at Feinberg is integrative. We are taught knowledge and skills from many different lenses and are able to integrate our knowledge in many different ways. We learn from lectures in a traditional way, but we also learn about medical ethics, learn from our peers in small groups during Problems Based Learning and from real patients during ECMH, as well as learn from our mentors during our AOSC. The curriculum at Feinberg is unique in that it teaches us to look at a patient from more than a physiological standpoint and encourages us to consider health as a combination of many different factors.

Topics I can discuss with Feinberg students:

  • Life in Chicago
  • ECMH
  • AOSC
  • Student Wellness
  • Campus Life
