Interviews

Interviews are conducted from October to December. Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, all interviews are anticipated to take place virtually via zoom.

To make scheduling convenient and fair, we will send our interview invitations via ERAS program messaging on Monday, October 9th. The ERAS message will include a link to SignupGenius where applicants will be able to sign up for interview time slots. The SignupGenius link will go live for scheduling on Tuesday, October 10th at 1p EST.

Each interview slot is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes in length
For each interview slot, there are 5 slots available to sign up
Interviews are conducted in Central Standard Time

Interview spots fill quickly, so please ensure that the email address linked to your application is reliable and one you are able to check frequently. Interview Day Structure

Your interview day will consist of a brief welcome message from the program director followed by an overview of the virtual interview experience with the coordinators. Interviews will be conducted by a resident, three faculty members, and the program director, with a 5-minute break incorporated. Altogether, the applicant’s interview experience will last about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and all of your interviews will be contiguous. Applicants are encouraged to join 5 minutes prior to the start of their interview time to prepare for the interview experience. At the end of the 1-hour and 30-minute interview, applicants will connect with one of our coordinators for a brief wrap-up session. At the end of the wrap-up session, there will be an optional meet & greet session with residents. The meet & greet session will be hosted exclusively by our residents and a separate zoom link will be provided during the wrap-up session. We understand this is an extraordinary year and want to be respectful of your time so that you may accommodate interviews during your clinical schedule. Much of our previous interview day that was not one on one conversations will be replaced by asynchronous videos that you will receive prior to your scheduled interview day.

Welcome/Social Event

All interview days are paired with a welcome/social evening Zoom event. These are set to occur in between each scheduled interview on Wednesday nights. Additional information will be sent along with interview invitations. Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend these events as they provide the space for you to interact with residents and faculty in a casual setting and for you to gain an inside view of the program. We recommend attending the session that most closely aligns with your interview date, however, applicants are welcome to attend other sessions throughout the season as well. To assist in your planning, the dates for the evening events are as follows.

Optional Second Look Dates

We are excited to offer scheduled in-person second look dates for applicants to visit NUEM. These visits are entirely optional and are solely intended to support applicants' decision-making. Second look attendance or non-attendance will not influence our rank list. Each second look date will include an opportunity to attend our weekly didactic conference, lunch with EM residents, a tour of the Northwestern Memorial Hospital ED, and an evening social event.
