Dr. Whitington's research involves the study of immune mechanisms of pediatric liver diseases. Our lab has identified an alloimmune mechanism of fetal liver injury, a process we call gestational alloimmune liver disease, which is the cause of most or all cases of neonatal hemochromatosis and is the likely cause of most cases of liver failure in the first 3 months of life.
