In the latest podcast, "Podcast SHE Season4CH2CarlWiemen-ScienceofExpertise," Dr. Barsuk interviews Dr. Carl Wieman, Professor Emeritus of Physics and Graduate Education at Stanford University. Dr. Wieman was awarded a Nobel Prize in Physics for his work producing the first true Bose-Einstein condensate.  More relevant to simulation, he received a Yidan Prize in education research for his contribution in developing new techniques and tools in STEM education using the science of expertise.  Drs. Barsuk and Wieman discuss the science of expertise and how it can be applied to medical education.

The entire podcast series covers key topics in healthcare simulation education. The first several podcasts focus on the book Comprehensive Healthcare Simulation: Mastery Learning in Health Professions Education, published by the Northwestern Simulation team in 2020. Jeffrey Barsuk, MD, MS, leads the discussions by highlighting key issues about principles and practices of simulation-based mastery learning with chapter authors and book editors. Subsequent podcasts discuss key issues in healthcare simulation with experts in the field. Podcast listeners can reach out with questions for the Northwestern Simulation team via email at simed@northwestern.edu.
