Resident Wellness & Benefits

Resident Wellness

Wellness among trainees is a top priority for the residency program. We recognize the high level of burnout among residents and physicians, and aim to mitigate and help residents navigate these issues. We strive to foster an environment of wellness through education of and discussion with faculty, staff, and trainees. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for residents while they develop the skills and knowledge to become outstanding physicians. Initiatives aimed at promoting wellness include the following:

  • Strict adherence to duty hours and call rules, with systems and coverage in place for breaks for residents when needed
  • Biannual resident events sponsored by the department
  • Discounted memberships to local gyms
  • Open door policy with the program director and chairman as well as monthly residency program director meetings to freely communicate concerns
  • Confidential counseling available to all residents and fellows struggling with any adjustment issues, depression, anxiety, or other mental health concerns
