Focus of Work
I study the culture of medicine as it affects patients, healthcare providers, and society at large. Broadly, my research explores the problem of clinical uncertainty, and the complex social dynamics and moral problems that arise from it, focusing on two key clinical areas: organ transplantation and pain management. As an anthropologist, I take a cross-cultural approach to studying these issues and have conducted comparative research in the U.S., Mexico, and Spain.
