State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) & Illinois Violent Death Reporting System (IVDRS)
We have a skilled team of data abstractors for the Illinois Violent Death Reporting System (IVDRS) and State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) that maintain procedures and systems to promote efficient and accurate flow of information and documents from data providers into the CDC online system. They gather, organize, analyze, and abstract data related to violent and overdose-related deaths in Illinois, covering 78 counties.

State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS)
Drug overdose is a national epidemic that effects individuals, families and communities. In 2023, there were 105,007 drug overdose deaths in the United States according to National Center for Health Statistics. To help find ways to prevent overdose deaths it is important that we know the facts. The State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) helps us understand emerging trends and factors leading up to the overdose and can be used to develop prevention approaches. SUDORS is a part of the CDC’s Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) initiative – and features a partnership with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, Buehler Center for Health Policy & Economics acts as a bona fide agent of IDPH to lead and implement SUDORS.

Illinois Violent Death Reporting System (IVDRS)
Violence is a significant public health problem that affects individuals, families, and communities. A total of 1,691 Illinois residents died a violent death in 2023 – nearly five violent deaths a day. To help find ways to prevent violent deaths, it is crucial that we know the facts surrounding these deaths. The Illinois Violent Death Reporting System (IVDRS) collects data from death certificates and coroner/medical examiner, autopsy, toxicology and law enforcement reports. IVDRS data links to the who, what, when, where, how, and why violent deaths occur to help in the identification of opportunities for prevention and to monitor progress. IVDRS is part of the CDC’s National Violent Death Reporting System, (NVDRS) and collects data on homicides, suicides, legal intervention, unintentional firearm and undermined deaths. SUDORS collects data from death certificates and coroner/medical examiner, autopsy, and toxicology reports. Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, Buehler Center for Health Policy & Economics acts as a bona fide agent of IDPH to lead and implement IVDRS.
