Welcome to the Northwestern University Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) website. The Northwestern MSTP was one of the first NIH-funded MD/PhD training programs in the country and continues to provide students with outstanding resources and mentorship for acquiring clinical and research skills.

Why Choose Northwestern University for Your MSTP Training?

Northwestern is a hub for cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research discoveries, innovative clinical care practices, and state-of-the-art educational methodologies. The Northwestern MSTP provides the structure, guidance and support that will help you take advantage of these resources to transform your intelligence, hard work and curiosity into concrete achievements.

Clinical training is centered at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, one of the top-ranked hospitals in the country. Research activities take advantage of modern laboratory facilities, such as the Louis A. Simpson and Kimberly K. Querrey Biomedical Research Center. When not actively learning, students can enjoy the city of Chicago, a vibrant center of culture, sports, entertainment and nightlife.

The MSTP leadership team fully supports a philosophy of soliciting feedback from students and mentors, and adapting to this feedback to build a stronger and more responsive training program.

I’m proud of our program’s distinguished history of training outstanding physician-scientists. It is my belief that being a physician-scientist is one of the most rewarding professions, and I hope to have the opportunity to share my enthusiasm with you.

Thank you for considering the Northwestern University MSTP. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
