Applied Practice Experience (APEx)

The Applied Practice Experience (APEx) takes place within a community organization or government agency with the purpose of gaining public health experience. A community partners orients a student to the organization’s mission and operations and have the student assist or lead in projects that meet the needs of the organization and the populations it serves. Dependent on a student's interests and concentration, APEx projects can be done domestically with our community partners or internationally through the Robert J. Havey, MD Institute for Global Health.

At the end of the APEx experience, students participate in a poster session that aims to:

  • Celebrate our MPH students' accomplishments as they present their Applied Practice Experience (APEx) project.
  • Show appreciation for and recognize the impact of all our community partners.
  • Learn about the wide range of public health projects happening in Chicago and beyond.
  • Network with members of the public health community at Northwestern and at community organizations across the Chicagoland area.

We will post details about upcoming poster sessions here.
