Tommy Orange is the author of the New York Times bestselling novel There There, a multigenerational, relentlessly paced story about a side of America few of us have ever seen: the lives of urban Native Americans. There There was one of The New York Times Book Review s 10 Best Books of the Year, and won the Center for Fiction s First Novel Prize and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Orange is a recent graduate from the MFA program at the Institute of American Indian Arts. He is a 2014 MacDowell Fellow, and a 2016 Writing by Writers Fellow. He is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. He was born and raised in Oakland, California, and currently lives in Angel s Camp, California.

Lavender Graduation

Evanston - 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM

Lavender Graduation is an inspiring and affirming ceremony co-sponsored with Northwestern University Pride Alumni Club (NUPAC) that celebrates the achievements of graduating students in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, queer, intersex, asexual and ally community from Northwestern University. All students who participate will receive a rainbow tassel and rainbow stole.

Graduating students are required to register online to take part in the celebration. Registration will open on Monday, March 9 at 9 AM and will close on Monday, May 11 at midnight.

The JOY: NU's Black Congratulatory Thursday

Evanston - 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

The Journey of Our Years, or The JOY, is our way of recognizing and celebrating all of NU's Black graduates. All students who participate in The JOY will receive a Kente stole.

Latinx Congratulatory

Evanston - 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

The Latinx Congratulatory is our way of recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of Northwestern's Latinx graduates. All students who participate will receive a stole that centers the connections with the history of the Latinx community at Northwestern.
