Director's Message

CAHRA is dedicated to fostering collaborations across the Northwestern community and throughout Chicago to stimulate research leading to meaningful improvements in the way our healthcare system proactively engages and supports individuals, and their families, as they get older and face increasing health demands.”

Michael Wolf, MA, MPH, PhD, Director, Center for Applied Research on Aging

Welcome to the Center for Applied Health Research on Aging (CAHRA) website. CAHRA serves as a research and education hub for geriatricians, gerontologists and aging health services researchers across the university and the Northwestern Medicine health system.

Our mission is to promote informed decision making and actions leading to optimal health and well-being among individuals and families over the life span. Our six research programs support our mission by exploring and understanding the many factors that affect a person’s ability to manage health throughout their life and use that knowledge to develop and disseminate interventions that support better health.

CAHRA unites faculty across clinical disciplines and from cognitive, behavioral, social and public health sciences, as well as fosters partnerships throughout Chicago to serve as a research and education hub for geriatricians, gerontologists and aging health services researchers across the university and the Northwestern Medicine health system.

Launched in 2019 through an institution-created endowment, our center shows Northwestern’s commitment to prioritizing aging research and to pursuing a leadership position in the field.

Thank you for your interest in our center. Please contact us at cahra@northwestern.edu for more information.
