Bio
Christine Wood is a sociologist whose research focuses on the social and institutional factors shaping participation in biomedical education and the biomedical workforce. Currently, she is a Research Assistant Professor of Medical Social Sciences and Core Faculty within the Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing. Dr. Wood is trained in qualitative methods with additional experience in quantitative and mixed-methods research. For more than a decade she has been examining biomedical education and workforce development by analyzing the experiences of scientists at all phases of the training trajectory, from secondary school to research careers. This work has led to methodological innovations in longitudinal qualitative research, an area with great promise for understanding experiences where temporality is a structuring element. Dr. Wood's work ranges from basic research to implementation and evaluation of interventions. She also has experience in health equity for SGM individuals, institutional change in higher education, and patient outcomes research. She has published in journals in the social sciences, biomedicine, gender and sexuality studies, and science and technology studies (STS).
