Gregory Phillips II, PhD, MS
Program Director
Dr. Phillips' research focuses on using complex epidemiological data and community-based evaluations to identify, describe, and address health disparities in marginalized minority populations.
Dr. Achenbach researches how to improve diagnosis, treatment and outcomes of patients with HIV and SARS-CoV-2 in the U.S. and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Dr. Chang is a rheumatologist and epidemiologist interested in the outcomes of individuals and populations with arthritis and chronic joint symptoms.
Dr. Johnson's research focuses on high priority areas of HIV/STI intervention implementation, risk assessment and developing prevention packages specifically for adolescents, with a focus on young women.
Dr. Joyce's research focuses on identifying epigenetic biomarkers of health-related environmental exposures and behaviors, in particular for social determinants of health, with age-related chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease using data collected from population cohort studies.
Nicola Lancki, MPH
Dr. Pyra's work focuses on sexual and reproductive health and implementation science to improve the equitable use of HIV and STI prevention.
Dr. Vu's research interests fall within two broad domains: 1) long-term associations of cardiovascular and lifestyle risk risk factors on healthy-aging; and 2) the influence of tobacco/nicotine/substance product use on health outcomes.
Dr. Zmora's research focuses on the cardiovascular health of youth and young adults, focusing on individuals with chronic conditions including congenital heart disease.
Guest Lecturers and Previous Thesis Advisors
Dr. Allen specializes in cardiovascular epidemiology with a focus on health services research. Her research interests include the effect of neighborhood and environment on cardiovascular disease, disparities in quality of care and outcomes as well as the use of large databases to examine these questions.
Dr. Carnethon currently serves as the Chair of the department of Preventive Medicine. Her research has examined the role that health behaviors such as diet, physical activity and sleep play on health across the lifecourse.
Kiarri Kershaw is a social epidemiologist whose research focuses on understanding and addressing structural and social drivers of health and health inequities. She has extensive experience in the application of advanced geospatial and statistical methodologies using several large maternal and cardiovascular health cohort studies.
Ciaran Kohli-Lynch is a health economist with research interests in cost-effectiveness analysis, decision-analytic modeling, and cardiovascular epidemiology. His research has focused on the cost-effectiveness of preventive interventions for cardiovascular disease, global health economic evaluation, and the analysis of pooled longitudinal cohort data.
Dr. Rasmussen-Torvik is a genetic epidemiologist interested in the identification of genetic risk factors for chronic diseases and the implementation of genomics into clinical care. She is also interested in the use of electronic health records in clinical and epidemiological research.
Dr. Ren is currently an assistant professor in dermatology and epidemiology. His research focuses on dermato-epidemiology and genetic epidemiology, exploring gene regulation networks and gene-gene interactions in various types of genetic disorders.
