CFAAR Science Sleuths

The CFAAR Science Sleuths Program is a 3-month self-guided program providing students a STEM-based opportunity to become young researchers & explore the field of scientific research. Students will advocate and promote food allergy awareness and education to a community they are involved in & will work alongside a mentor of their choosing to implement their study.   

Program Overview:

Students will answer the overarching research question: “Can students increase food allergy awareness in their community by working with a mentor to promote food allergy education?”  

Learning Objective:

  • Students will conduct a research study using CFAAR-prepared education materials. 
  • Students will learn the foundations of research & the research methods process as they work through the six program modules. 
  • Students will learn to develop effective research questions & understand the survey development process. 
  • Students will facilitate a community conversation & administer pre/post survey assessing FA knowledge as they collaborate with their mentor. 
  • Students will collect, analyze, and reflect on qualitative and quantitative data through observational notes and peer survey responses. 

Requirements:

  • Currently a midle school or high school student
  • Enthusiasm for research and intellectual curiosity 
  • Ability to self-pace and self-motivate through a virtual program 

Program Logistics:

When: Seasonal sessions will take place in Fall, Winter, and Spring. See upcoming dates below: 

  • Winter: December 1st, 2025-February 27th, 2026  
  • Spring: March 2nd, 2026-May 22nd, 2026  

Location: Online, virtual program 

Costs:

The cost of the CFAAR Science Sleuths Program is $250. (Program costs will take effect starting with the spring session.)

All students are encouraged to apply regardless of financial need. Tuition assistance is available to students who apply. Selected applicants will receive instructions for acceptance requirements.
