About the Program

The Bedside Excellence Development Series (BEDS) is a faculty development program designed to improve bedside clinical and teaching skills for faculty who provide direct patient care and teach medical learners at all levels. During BEDS, faculty work with expert bedside clinicians who partner with real patients to teach fundamental bedside skills, including history taking, communication, physical exam and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS).

Participants receive advanced training on the physical exam for specialty areas including:

  • Pulmonary
  • Cardiac
  • Musculoskeletal
  • Neurology
  • Vascular
  • Dermatologic

Participants also receive CME credit and a certificate of completion at the end of the course. Piloted in 2026 for Northwestern faculty, BEDS will open to national and international participants in 2027 with both in-person and hybrid events.
