2025-2026 Bedside Scholars
The Northwestern University Center for Bedside Medicine is excited to announce its 2025-2026 Bedside Scholars!
Dr. Siew May Wang is a hospitalist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Her project explores how team dynamics—specifically handoffs, communication, and collaboration among healthcare team members—impact the effectiveness of Rapid Response Teams (RRTs). The goal is to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance performance and patient care.
Dr. Alexandra Petrakos is a geriatrician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Her project is intended to improve bedside evaluation and diagnosis in older patients with dementia and altered mental status. She will develop and roll out a bedside curriculum in the skilled nursing facility setting with the goal of empowering students, trainees, and facility staff to improve their history taking and exam skills for this unique and vulnerable patient population.
Dr. Adam Baim is an ophthalmologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. His project will make optical coherence tomography (OCT) available as a diagnostic test for inpatients with serious eye issues. OCT is an incredibly powerful diagnostic tool, but is currently only available in the outpatient ophthalmology clinic. Dr. Baim’s project will also create an automated electronic medical record (EMR) system to ensure that patients who receive inpatient ophthalmology consultation will have appropriate outpatient follow-up.
