Study Identifies Key Microglial Channel Driving Neuroinflammation and Depressive‑Like Behaviors

A new study from the Prakriya Lab identifies Orai1 calcium channels as key regulators of microglia‑driven neuroinflammation. Inhibiting Orai1 reduced hippocampal inflammation and protected against inflammation‑induced depressive‑like behaviors, according to findings published in Science Signaling.

Congratulations to Dr. Prakriya and team on being featured on the cover!

Feng Yue Named Associate Director for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

Feng Yue, PhD, the Duane and Susan Burnham Professor of Molecular Medicine and professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics and of Pathology, has been appointed associate director for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. In this newly established role, he will lead the center’s strategic initiatives in artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data analytics, overseeing the development of advanced data platforms and advancing the integration of AI-driven approaches across basic, translational and clinical research.

Yue also serves as director of the Center for Advanced Molecular Analysis within Northwestern's Institute for Augmented Intelligence in Medicine and was a founding director of the Center for Cancer Genomics at the Lurie Cancer Center.

His research leverages high-throughput genomics and computational modeling to define how genetic variants and non-coding regulatory elements shape cancer development, with the goal of identifying regulatory mechanisms that may serve as biomarkers or therapeutic targets.

We celebrate the exceptional accomplishments of our faculty, students and postdocs. Your dedication, innovation and impact continue to elevate our community.
