All Feinberg-managed computers have access to additional software that can be installed via the Software Center for Windows or Self-Service on an Apple device.

Standard Purchasable Software

Students, faculty and staff can request software through Feinberg IT. Feinberg has a number of standard software packages that can be easily purchased through Feinberg IT, typically at a contracted discount and tax-free.

Purchase Software

If you need software not listed on the NUIT or Feinberg IT pages, contact us through our Feinberg IT Service Request Form or email fsmhelp@northwestern.edu.

Any software that does not have an existing agreement with NUIT or Feinberg IT may need further review. If the software accesses Level 2 data or higher, you'll need to fill out a Service Provider Security Assessment form.

SAS

Qualitative Analysis

The SAS System is an integrated suite of software with modularly designed tools for data warehousing, EIS, OLAP, rapid application development and applied analysis. Feinberg manages a school-wide SAS network license.

  • Limitations: One device per license, cannot be installed on Apple devices

SPSS
Qualitative Analysis

The SPSS software suite is a complete statistical toolkit. SPSS offers a wide range of statistical procedures, including descriptive statistics, inferential statistics and data visualization. Feinberg manages a school-wide SPSS network license that has the full features of a SPSS GradPack Premium license.

  • Period: Annual, renewed on Nov. 30, 2025, not prorated
  • Limitations: One device per license, can only be installed on a Feinberg-managed device, Northwestern Medicine and Lurie Children's devices are not supported

GraphPad Prism

Qualitative Analysis

GraphPad Prism allows users to create a variety of graphs, including scatter plots, histograms, box plots and more. It offers a wide range of customization options for graphs, ensuring they are suitable for publication. Most commonly used statistical software within Feinberg. Feinberg manages a school-wide GraphPad network license.

  • Price: $110 per year
  • Period: Annual, renewed on Oct. 9, 2025, not prorated
  • Limitations: One device per license; this software must be used for Feinberg research purposes only.

Stata

Qualitative Analysis

Stata is a widely used statistical software package that's used for data manipulation, analysis and visualization. Stata provides a comprehensive range of statistical methods for descriptive, inferential and advanced analyses.

NVivo
Qualitative Analysis

NVivo is software designed to help users organize and analyze non-numerical, or unstructured, data. NVivo helps qualitative investigators organize, analyze and uncover insights from unstructured or qualitative data such as interviews, open-ended survey responses, journal articles, social media and web content, where deep levels of analysis are required on small or large volumes of data.

Projoect Management

Microsoft Project is a project management service within the Microsoft 365 applications and add-ins that allows the development of schedules, resource assignment, task creation, tracking, budget management, workload review and the sharing of this information with chosen stakeholders.

Parallels

Virtual Machine

Parallels Desktop allows users to run Windows or Linux as a virtual machine within their Mac environment. Seamless integration with macOS, allowing users to easily switch between Windows and macOS applications. Suitable for developers, designers and power users who need to run Windows software or test cross-platform applications.

  • Price: $70.84 per year
  • Period: Annual
  • Limitations: Feinberg currently has limited support for Windows installations on Mac devices due to differences in hardware architecture. Using a remote desktop to access a native Windows device is recommended.
