The Comprehensive Transplant Center (CTC) was founded in 2009 to facilitate research and education across all areas of transplantation and other care for end-stage organ disease. Stakeholders include the leadership of departments and clinical programs that include adult and pediatric abdominal, thoracic, and cellular transplantation. Our mission is to reach the pinnacle of academic excellence such that the Comprehensive Transplant Center at Northwestern University is considered synonymous with best clinical practice, high impact research, and most desirable training program in transplantation. To achieve this goal, we will foster a sense of shared destiny and pride of enterprise by facilitating interdependent and interdisciplinary academic initiatives. The CTC has been established on a model of research and training cores and administrative support constructed to support collaborative research that reaches as broadly as possible across academic disciplines. These collaborations, which include researchers and educators from medicine, basic sciences, law, business, social sciences, public policy, and engineering, are encouraged to be broad and ambitious. By engaging the best minds in as many fields as possible, we hope to transform the lives of patients and their loved ones for whom devastating diseases threaten lives and well-being with innovative research that stretches from basic science through clinical translation to advanced outcomes measurement and comparative effectiveness and ultimate healthcare policy.
