Undergraduate Medical Education

Third-year medical students participate in a required six-week clerkship in obstetrics and gynecology. During the course of the clerkship, students will work in the delivery room, operating room, and outpatient settings. Students will also attend clinical conferences that address medical and surgical management of gynecologic problems, high-risk obstetrics, and issues in prenatal diagnosis.

In addition to the third-year clerkship, a broad selection of senior electives is offered. These electives are highly sought not only by Northwestern students, but also by senior medical students from around the country.

The Undergraduate Education Program is supervised by a committee of faculty members from Prentice Women’s Hospital and affiliated hospitals. The department’s educational objectives are based on the APGO criteria.
