Gynecologic Oncology Research

The Division of Gynecologic Oncology is involved in a number of research studies.  For more information on individual studies, please follow the links below to the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center.

ProtocolPrincipal InvestigatorTitlePurpose
GOG 0212Julian Schink, MDA Randomized Phase III Trial of Maintenance Chemotherapy Comparing 12, Monthly Cycles of Single Agent Paclitaxel or Xyotax (CT-2103)(IND# 70177), Versus No Treatment Until Documented Relapse in Women with Advanced Ovarian or Primary Peritoneal Cancer Who Achieve a Complete Clinical Response to Primary Platinum/Taxane Chemotherapy. The purpose of this study is to examine whether women with advanced ovarian cancer who have no evidence of disease after the completion of initial chemotherapy live longer if a specific treatment program is continued once a month for 12 months, versus stopping all chemotherapy until there is evidence of recurrence of the disease process.
GOG 0213Julian Schink, MDA Phase III Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial of Carboplatin and Paclitaxel Alone or in Combination with Bevacizumab (NSC #704865, IND #7921) Followed by Bevacizumab and Secondary Cytoreductive Surgery in Platinum-Sensitive, Recurrent Ovarian, Fallopian Tube and Peritoneal Primary Cancer The first purpose of this study is to compare the combination of carboplatin, paclitaxel and bevacizumab to the standard combination of carboplatin and paclitaxel alone. A second purpose of this study is to determine if a second surgery to remove tumor followed by chemotherapy can increase the time that patients remain disease free.
GOG 0242Julian Schink, MDA Phase II Study to Determine the Response to Second Curettage as Initial Management for Persistent Low Risk, Non-Metatastic Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia The purpose of this study is to determine if a second curettage, the procedure to remove the abnormal cancer cells from the uterus, will decrease the likelihood that you will need chemotherapy for your condition in the near future.
GOG 0238Julian Schink, MDA Randomized Trial of Pelvic Irradiation with or without Concurrent Weekly Cisplatin in Patients with Pelvic-Only Recurrence of Carcinoma of the Uterine Corpus The main purpose of this study is to compare radiation therapy in combination with weekly treatment with the chemotherapy drug cisplatin to the standard treatment for this type of cancer and to evaluate the side effects of the combination of radiation therapy and cisplatin.
GOG 0229FJulian Schink, MDA Phase II Evaluation of VEGF-TRAP (Afilbercept, NSC #724770, IND # BB100137, NCI-Supplied Agent) in the Treatment of Recurrent or Persistent Endometrial Carcinoma The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the investigational drug VEGF-Trap in treating recurrent or persistent Endometrial Carcinoma.
GOG 0218Julian Schink, MDA Phase III Trial of Carboplatin and Paclitaxel Plus Placebo versus Carboplatin and Paclitaxel Plus Concurrent Bevacizumab (NSC #704865, IND #7921) Followed By Placebo, versus Carboplatin and Paclitaxel Plus Concurrent and Extended Bevacizumab, in Women with Newly Diagnosed, Previously Untreated, Stage III (Suboptimal) and all Stage IV, Epithelial Ovarian or Primary Peritoneal Cancer
The purpose of this study is to compare the combination of carboplatin, paclitaxel and Bevacizumab to the standard combination of carboplatin and paclitaxel alone. Effectiveness of treatment will be measured in terms of survival, time without evidence of cancer growth and quality of life (wellness and physical functioning).
