Mission Statement

"We aim to better understand the scientific mechanisms underlying several diseases specific to women in hopes of improving women’s health and their overall quality of life."

Our division is especially unique in that:

  • Our major research focuses on several common conditions that can affect a woman’s life, including fibroids, endometriosis, gynecologic cancers, placental abnormalities leading to adverse pregnancy outcomes, and breast cancer.
  • It merges highly accomplished physician scientists and basic scientists to integrate cutting edge research with clinical medicine
  • Fellows, residents, and students are key contributors to our research program.
  • Ultimately, we recognize that the quality of care we provide as a department will be enhanced by the vibrant research activities in the division.

Areas of Research

A Message from the Division Chief

  • Uterine Leiomyoma (fibroids)

  • Placenta

  • Meiosis

  • Breast Cancer

  • Endometrial Cancer

  • Cervical Cancer

  • Colon Cancer

A mutual interest in the biology and pathology of women's reproductive tissues, placenta and the fetus brought the scientists in our Division together. The overarching theme is the role of steroid hormones, their receptors and other nuclear receptors in reproduction. We collaborate extensively with clinical and basic investigators at Northwestern and researchers at other academic centers across the world.  We maintain the philosophy that high-impact research work can be accomplished most effectively via collaborative studies.
