Emergency Medicine Club

Dr. Amy Kontrick, Director of Student Education, serves as faculty advisor for the medical school-sponsored Emergency Medicine Club.  The club not only provides students early exposure to emergency medicine but also offers clinical experience and mentoring.  The club sponsors a monthly lunchtime lecture series featuring various emergency medicine faculty members.  These conferences are aimed at first and second-year students with the goal of exposing them to various aspect of emergency medical care.  In addition, the club sponsors evening workshops featuring topics such as suturing, radiology, and an airway lab.  The first and second-year students are also provided an opportunity to shadow a physician in the ED during their pre-clinical years, which provides valuable clinical experiences in the specialty early in their careers.  The Emergency Medicine Club also strives to encourage student interest and involvement in emergency medicine research by increasing awareness of current projects and providing appropriate mentors for students with original research ideas.

We are piloting a new shadowing scheduling system for Northwestern students. If you are interested in participating, please look at the available dates Here. If you would like to shadow on an available date, please send a request e-mail to NMHshadow@gmail.com including your name, year, and on which date(s) you are available to shadow. Please make all requests with at least 2-3 days before your requested shadowing session.
