What are the students like? We have a talented, passionate, community-minded student body. Many are very active in the state and national Physical Therapy Associations, as well as numerous campus and community organizations. Students are responsible for an annual yearbook. They serve on various NUPT committees and task forces. (back to top) |
What kinds of backgrounds do students have? Students come from all over the country and we occasionally have international students. All of our students have a bachelor’s degree. The range of undergraduate majors is wide from the sciences to business and performing arts. Several of our students have earned masters or doctoral degrees before entering our program. Our students are a mixture of those who have just completed their undergraduate education, those who have taken time off to work and complete additional class work prior to application to PT school and those who have been working in another field and are making career changes. Where do students live? At present there is no dorm on the Chicago campus. While in school, our students live throughout the Chicago and the suburbs, with a concentration living in Chicago neighborhoods north and northwest of the downtown area within a 5-7 mile radius. Proximity to public transportation makes these neighborhoods especially desirable. Places like Wrigleyville, Lakeview and Lincoln Park are home to many NUPT students. This is an online database developed by NU law students that is available to NU and Loyola University graduate students. This website allows students to locate rentals and sub-lets as well as potential roommates. (back to top) |
Do students have time to work? Between 1/3 -1/2 of students say that they work while in PT school, a few in the evenings, more on the weekends. Most work 5-10 hours/week. A number of students work in health-care, (imminently possible with the variety of hospitals and clinics nearby); while others find work in retail and hospitality jobs – also in abundance in our Magnificent Mile location. Do students generally have a car? Less than half of our students have a car in Chicago; and very few drive to school. Chicago has great public transportation system and a monthly CTA pass (part of student fees) make bus or L transportation the choice for many students. (back to top) |
