Admissions Procedures for the Graduate Programs in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety

All applicants must complete and submit The Graduate School online application offered through our vendor, ApplyYourself, and all of the supporting documents listed below. 

Minimum Requirement: Applicants should have an undergraduate degree and at least 3 years of work experience in a healthcare setting.

 

Application Requirements

1. Northwestern University Graduate School online application

The Graduate School online application can be found at www.tgs.northwestern.edu/admission/. Please use the following Program Codes as applicable: H02MS (Master of Science), H02ND (Certificate and Faculty Development Programs).  Please select Summer as the Admission Term.

2. Two Letters of Recommendation

Applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation which should be submitted via The Graduate School online application.

3.  Graduate Entrance Exam

Acceptable graduate entrance exam test scores include GRE, GMAT, MCAT, LSAT, MAT or other test scores. (Contact us to determine applicability of other test scores).The most recent graduate entrance exam test score should be submitted.  The graduate entrance exam requirement may be waived for candidates with a graduate degree.

4. Transcripts

Applicants are required to upload one set of transcripts from each postsecondary institution attended. The transcripts should document all courses taken, grades received and (if applicable) degree earned. These should be submitted via The Graduate School online application.

5. CV

Applicants are required to submit their most recent Curriculum Vitae which should be submitted electronically via The Graduate School online.

6. Writing Sample

Please provide a description of one key issue in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety and discuss possible solutions (responses should be no more than 750 words).The Writing Sample should be submitted electronically via The Graduate School online application.

 

A Note to International Applicants

Unfortunately, the Graduate Programs in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety cannot accept international applicants as the programs do not fulfill the criteria to issue a student visa. Student visas can only be issued to international students for full-time study. However, international students who have a valid student visa are eligible to apply.

NOW OFFERING TWO SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE MASTER OF SCIENCE IN HEALTHCARE QUALITY AND PATIENT SAFETY

We are pleased to announce that we will offer two scholarship opportunities for students applying for admission in summer 2012.

These scholarships will provide 50% of the tuition costs for the first year of the Master of Science degree program. Scholarships are renewable for the second year of study contingent upon good academic standing.

Clinicians who care for under-served, low income patients, as well as applicants from nursing, allied health professions and individuals currently in residency and fellowship training are strongly encouraged to apply for the scholarship.

If you would like to be considered for the scholarship, please submit a short description of no more than 250 words explaining why you feel that you should receive this scholarship. This should be submitted as a separate document, via email, to mastersihs@northwestern.edu. Please include your full name and your ApplyYourself applicant ID on this statement.
