THE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

The goal of the Certificate Program in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety is to provide a structured curriculum that presents the emerging content and skills healthcare professionals need to become effective healthcare quality and patient safety thinkers and practitioners.

The 12-month Certificate Program is designed for the learner who wants to acquire in-depth knowledge of these fields without committing to the more intensive 18-month Master's Program. The Certificate Program consists of the four core courses in the Master’s Program in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety curriculum, starting with an introductory 2-week immersion program in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety provided in the summer quarter. The immersion program begins with a reading period, followed by two weeks of classroom based instruction.

This work is followed by an independent study, along with 10 monthly webcasts. The Certificate Program concludes with a second immersion program the following summer quarter which includes more advanced content and skill development.

The Certificate Program is designed for both students in the local Northwestern University vicinity and students across the country. Students can come to Northwestern University for the 2-week immersion programs each summer and complete the independent study remotely. The monthly webcasts can be viewed from any location. Off-campus accommodation is available for both immersion programs.
